Wednesday
Hangzhou time…we arrived at 10am and had messaged our
friend Jasmine but had heard no response so we called her and she said we had
to wait another 20 minutes for the driver, a lot of waiting around, to say the
least. Today was nasty, I was very tired and grumpy and continued to change my
print so it was the right number of colours for Mr Chen.
At 3.30 Miss Guo told us we would be going to a hotel
for dinner…NOOO I wanted Pizza Hut…. and 2 we had so much work to do. We left
at 4.30 and didn’t’ arrived at the hotel till 6.30 the traffic in Hangzhou is
ridiculous. Today was not the best day to be messed around, not knowing where
we were going or whom we were going with. Miss Guo had told us we would meet
her brother. Whilst in the car she explained that her brother was her uncle’s
son. Confused? Yes, so were we. Either she was confused herself or that was a
serious case of incest. Panicked.
The hotel was very posh, and our mood seemed to lift
with the prospect of beer. Miss Guo was I think trying to be nice and her heart
is in the right place as she ordered special food for us, and we had beef and
peppers, and peas with fried rice and they brought out some steak and sauce
with chips.
Thankfully I’d started to relax and they understood
we were tired and got home rather early, although she did say hotel for dinner
again tomorrow :/
Ah I should also mention we phoned Jeremy to ask if
Miss Guo meant cousin instead of brother, he explained that yes see would. In
the Chinese language they use many prefix’s to describe relations so this is
why things got lost in translation.
Thursday
I think I have pretty much finished my collection
today. Yippe, a few changes might be made. Having learnt that our boss is not
accepting of new things, I decided to design things he wants and just change
them slightly.
Again we left the company early and were taken to an
even posher restaurant in a hotel. The room was enormous. We dinned with 10
other people who were Miss Guo’s old work colleagues and friends. There was
also a young boy called Paul, who spoke a little English to us. The previous
night Miss Guo had taught us the word for Cheers in Chinese….Gang Bei. However over here Cheers means
down your drink. Every 5 minutes someone said this to us and we were forever
downing our Beer, Miss Guo was aswell. Kate and I decided to be brave and tried
Snake, this was actually quite tasty and was similar to chicken but a bit fatty
and chewy.
Again the dinner was a lot nicer than we originally
imagined, the company driver picked us up and decided against taking Miss Guo
for her car as she was a bit drunk and took us straight back to her home. As we
climbed the stairs she spoke in better English and told us she was “Happy, very
much” and said “I sway” . This was the most fun we had had with her since our
time in Hangzhou. It was only 8.20 but we went straight up to bed. The week has
been so busy so I had another beer and caught up on my blog.
