Chinese Cold

Wednesday morning I woke with an awful cold, boo poorly ol' me. Not a happy bunny. Thankfully me and Kate were not going to Hangzhou this week because our boss had important meetings at the college here in Ningbo. On wednesday we went to meet Jasmine whilst she showed us some of the work she did for the company, to help us gain more of an insight of the to the style of childrenswear they were after.

In the afternoon we met our tutors and the college, that will help us with any problems during our placement. They all seemed awfully concerned about my sniffly nose and to my horror they all turned round and said "I think we go to hospital". Hospital for a cold, yes, over here the slight sniffle people go to the hospital and get an IV drip for a cold. I tried my best to say I was fine and that in England if we went to a hospital we would be laughed out of the door. They soon whipped our some Chinese remedies and the first was in a little test tube which Jasmine opened and put a straw in and said "drink quick, it is not nice". I was very dubious, but it was amazing, it tasted just like treacle from bonfire night. They found this so amusing that I thought it was delicious because they hate it. Wednesday night, was an early one, a quick beef and rice for tea then bed.

Thursday we went to meet our boss at the college, but he was delayed and got landed another teaching job for another department which means more money which is good. Jasmine again tried to take me to the hospital but i refused. Whilst we waited for our boss to arrive from Hangzhou we were able to stream The Voice in our room and had a nice relax. As the saying goes feed a cold starve a fever, I thought I needed some good grub in my belly. Off to Lao Waitan we went to our favourite Mexican for Chilli Con Carne, Rice and Chips. This made me feel quite a bit better. A meeting had been arranged with our boss in a traditional chinese Tea House. The place was lovely and I had my very own tea ordered to help with my chesty cough and cold, it smelt like something you cook with, a chinese seed maybe, they couldn't tell me the english name but it was very good and soothing. Despite being very full from the mexican out the waiters came with food. NO was screaming in my head.

Not sure what came over me, maybe the chinese cold had a crazy effect but i decided to try the Chicken Feet. And they were quite nice, quite spicy. To do this I had to close my eyes but I feel so proud I can say I have tried this. We showed our boss our work and he has chosen the theme of Russian Dolls for my childrenswear collection, and if all goes to plan my collection will be made and I can take one piece home. How exciting!!!!

Friday morning we met our boss and Jasmine at the college where we started to work on our collections. My tutor Rose came in and gave me some more medicine and hurried off. I was dubious about taking this and wanted to found out what it was before I took it. Turned out to be a chinese style lempsip and wait for it Penicillin. How she got it? I'm not sure, but I refused as it still could be anything and not sure how much stronger things are out here and i'm really not that ill. Yet again Jasmine said we go to hospital and again I said no i am much better. It's very sweet really because they are really caring but the last thing I want to do is go to a chinese hospital.

After lunch we were invited to a seminar in which the tutors discussed with members of industry what they should be teaching to their pupils, and what skills are valued most. The seminar was in chinese so I didn't understand much. In the second part we were split off with the fellow designers and here we met the man who owned the fabric company, Ningbo Guangyuan Fabric, we collaborated with this company at uni. It was very interesting to speak to him and we were shown the showroom he has at the college. Kate and I have also landed our 2nd modelling job, this time hats and bags. The company sells pieces to H&M, Zara and George, a few samples below haha.

After a long day meeting and greeting back home now getting ready for a nice meal, steak, I can't wait...
